Ecolingerie.com is based in Lyon, South East of France. I worked in the lingerie industry for more than 10 years, and I know it takes very little for an industry to move toward one specific direction. I decided to lauch the ecolingerie project knowing that textile, including lingerie, is one of the most polluting industry in the World. In some countries manufacturing mostly lingerie, water resources have been contimated by over 40%.
The 80's are long time gone and luxury today goes with ethical and ecology, or there isn' t any luxury.
Sportwear and other textile areas made strong moves toward ecology. Not lingerie as manufacturers still think that ecology is not sexy enough.
But I don' t see personnally what's so sexy about contaminating waters especially when they can do something about it.
Luxury today does not match any longer only exclusive boutiques and nice pictures in magazines. The ultimate luxury in 2008 is far more responsible than the one from the 80's and 90's.
Ecolingerie is not promoting ecology in a strict way : we don't want to censure polyester or polyamide. We promote a more responsible approach in lingerie manufacturing and better and safer products for the consumers and the environment
We believe that our mission is also yours : we all know by now that exporting pollution to the other side of the World is not an answer.
